PUNK meets PIZZICA . “Sweet Release” Tour. Justin & Adams & Mauro Durante - a meeting of two master musicians whose respective roots brought them together from Punk and Pizzica music. They perform their own unique glorious fusion that seamlessly links the two traditions.
At times stunningly joyful with crashing guitar chords raucously complementing a “taranta” rhythm groove from the Tamburello or emotion tugging fiddle strings. At other times the music is gentle and poignant but imbued with an energy that speaks of their respective musical heritages.
Justin’s early punk rock days, and his time with Jah Wobble helped get his skills recognised. Then, as Robert Plant’s band guitarist he was to develop a lasting relationship with desert blues and the many collaborations emanating from that. Eventually Justin teamed up with Mauro Durante; leader, singer and fiddle player with the renowned ‘Pizzica’ group Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino from Puglia, in Southern Italy. Steeped in the energetic Taranta folk tradition CGS have evolved a contemporary music fit for modern audiences but still appeals to the traditional for its foundations.
Together Justin and Mauro’s first attempt at an album resulted in them winning Songlines magazine Best Fusion album award in 2022. Their new album Sweet Release, is destined to be another winner.
In the first half Talking Gigs explores their musical relationship through interview and music followed by a Sweet Release tour second set.
